Systems Champion breaks the biggest myth in business that systemizing is the leader’s job alone. David Jenyns shows that true leadership lies in empowering others to build systems that drive the business forward, without constant owner involvement.

That’s exactly why my team at ActionCOACH believes that systems are such a vital step in growing your business. Systems Champion offers a clear, practical path to building what we refer to as a Commercial, Profitable Enterprise That Works Without You.

So start reading and implementing, so you can move from chaos to clarity, let your team thrive, and finally reclaim your time.”

“I initially had my new ops manager read the Systems Champion book and he loved it. I also went through it and really like how you’re creating a book for Systems Champions to make it easier to execute everything.”

“What really stood out to me was the bold, but refreshingly honest, idea that the business owner shouldn’t be the one responsible for systemising their business. Instead, David Jenyns makes a compelling case for hiring a dedicated Systems Champion to lead the charge. It’s a total mindset shift that frees the owner to focus on growth, while someone else embeds the systems that create true freedom. This book is a game-changer for any business looking to scale sustainably, especially timely with the rise of AI.”

“SYSTEMology is the answer to the colossal failure rates of small business worldwide. The strategy and tactics the book details offer a pathway to take command of each crucial facet of any business.”

“David Jenyns is, without question, one of the world’s leading voices when it comes to systems and business efficiency. Systems Champion is his best work yet… a practical, inspiring guide that turns the abstract idea of ‘systems’ into something you can implement, track, and benefit from immediately.

What I love most about David’s work is that it’s not theory. It’s simple, actionable, and real. Whether it’s the Three Pillars framework, the clarity around the Systems Champion role, or the fusion of AI with smart processes. This book equips you to grow with efficiency, sustainably and profitably. I found myself nodding throughout the early chapters thinking, ‘Yep, every business owner needs this yesterday.’

But beyond the book… it’s the man. David lives what he teaches. He’s generous, deeply values‑led, and consistently gives more than he takes. I’ve worked with him on multiple projects and every single time, he’s shown up with heart, humility, and total commitment. He’s one of the rare ones who makes you better just by being around him.

If you want to grow a business that runs without chaos, builds real freedom, and performs like clockwork… read this, implement it, and consider yourself lucky to be learning from one of the best.

“As an author of several best‑selling books, people often ask me to review business books, and it’s a real pleasure when I come across one that’s not about showing off the author, but instead actually helps the reader. Systems Champion is one of those rare books.

I’ve read Dave’s earlier books and worked with him for more than a decade, so I know what to expect—something clear, practical, and straight to the point. That’s exactly what you get with Systems Champion. No fluff, no filler—just useful information written in a way that’s easy to understand.

Dave’s passion for systems really comes through, and this book is another strong step in his standout work in this area. I have to say, this feels like the natural and necessary evolution from SYSTEMology. Where your first book was epic in establishing the ‘why’ and ‘what’ of business systemisation, this one cracks the code on the ‘who’ and ‘how to actually make it stick.’

What I got clearly is that business owners are often the bottleneck in their own systemisation efforts. (Something I’ve been jokingly saying to clients for the past decade!) It’s both brilliant and frankly overdue. I see this constantly in my work with scaling businesses. Founders get excited about systems, start documenting processes, then get pulled back into firefighting mode within weeks. The dedicated Systems Champion role solves this beautifully.

What I particularly love:
The Three Pillars Framework is elegantly simple yet comprehensive. The way you’ve mapped specific excuses to specific solutions (Documentation → ‘I didn’t know how’, Tools → ‘I didn’t know it was my job’, Culture → ‘I don’t want to’) gives Systems Champions a clear diagnostic and response framework.

The AI integration angle is prescient. Positioning the Systems Champion as naturally evolving into an AI Champion feels like you’re future‑proofing the role rather than just solving today’s problems. The connection between documented processes and AI training data is something most businesses haven’t even considered yet.

The cultural transformation methodology using the ‘dancing guy’ analogy is both memorable and actionable. Too many business books tell you what to change without showing you how people actually change. Your approach acknowledges that culture trumps strategy every time.

The case studies throughout add credibility and show the methodology working across different industries and business sizes. Particularly liked the Stannard Homes example, showing how this role can become a genuine career path, not just a project assignment.

One small suggestion if I may? You might consider adding a brief section on when businesses are ready for a Systems Champion vs. when they need to solve more fundamental issues first. There’s probably a minimum business size/complexity where this investment makes sense, and whilst we would hope all business owners see the benefit and adopt this early, some micro businesses might be ‘put off’ by thinking this is ‘yet something else’ they have to do.

The book positions beautifully for what I see as the next decade of business growth. As entrepreneurs focus more on what moves the needle (that #addazero mindset), having someone dedicated to building the infrastructure that enables sustainable scaling becomes essential, not optional.”

“This is a wonderful follow-up to SYSTEMology. I had David on the show and his story and ideas were wonderful for my audience of business owners and the shorts did well on LinkedIn. I was a bit intrigued when I got an early copy of the follow up. I didn’t know there was so much more to say, but there is so much more. I was really touched by the introduction story about how AI is changing the business and this book does a great job of responding to how AI is changing business but also how it can make creating systems easier and faster for business owners.

I was surprised when he advised that business owners not be a systems champion until I read the advice for systems champions and I realized that he was absolutely right. I think for many business owners, this is essential reading. I’ve seen clients over the years not be able to get out from under the dependency their business has on them. This book is a guide on how to get free from your business and how to train the right kind of people to make these systems work and to continue building them.

“Very early in this book I had two thoughts: 1) Wow, this is brilliant. 2) Wow, I really need a Systems Champion. If you feel the same, you’re holding the solution.

“Many sustainable businesses hit a wall when trying to scale, even with strong product‑market fit, because the CEO struggles to build a systems‑driven company. What’s often missing is the right person to lead systemization.

David Jenyns’ Systems Champion is the roadmap business owners need. It reframes systemization as a team function, not a solo effort, and shows how to empower a dedicated champion to lead the process. This book is a must‑read if you’re ready to move beyond survival and truly scale.

As someone who has interviewed and guided hundreds of business owners, I’ve seen firsthand how essential this shift is to sustainable growth.”

With built‑in worksheets, diagnostics, and action steps, it’s more than a book – it’s a practical guide that reinforces learning through doing. “David Jenyns has identified and solved the missing piece of the business systems puzzle. While SYSTEMology provided the brilliant blueprint for implementing systems and processes, every business owner knows the harsh reality: we don’t have the time to execute it ourselves.

Systems Champion fills this critical gap by revealing the ‘secret sauce’—the art of empowering a dedicated Systems Champion within your organization. This isn’t just another business book; it’s the practical roadmap that transforms theory into reality.

What sets this book apart is its refreshing honesty about the challenges business owners face and its step-by-step approach that makes implementation genuinely achievable. Jenyns has created an accessible guide that eliminates excuses and provides everything a Systems Champion needs to succeed. The result? Businesses can finally make the crucial transition from being people-dependent to process-dependent.

For any business owner who dreams of building a company that operates successfully without their constant presence, Systems Champion is not just recommended—it’s essential. This book completes the journey that SYSTEMology began, providing the missing link between vision and execution.”

“Systems Champion is the missing manual for business owners stuck in the day-to-day. David doesn’t just talk systems — he shows you how to build a team that runs them. This book is a game-changer if you want to scale with sanity, not stress.”

“Systems Champion is easy to read and shows how the owner of a business should not be the one to champion the systems that lead to growth, efficiency and greater profitability. You’ve all heard about the difference between working IN your business versus working ON your business. This is book with the instructions on how to do that easily and how to find that Systems Champion for your business.”

“The System Champion is a powerful, practical guide for entrepreneurs who want their business to run without them. It’s relatable and refreshingly vulnerable, making complex ideas feel accessible—even exciting.

The book’s core message is empowering: the CEO doesn’t need to do all the systemizing. David shows how to appoint and equip a System Champion—a non-owner employee who can build the systems that drive consistency and profit. This shift alone can free up leadership and dramatically improve margins by reducing project timelines.

What I loved most is how David blends operational strategy with modern tools. He covers how to structure and connect systems management software (with sign-offs, permissions, rich media) and project management tools (triggered and recurring tasks) into one coherent machine. His concept of Minimum Viable Systems, and his “Purpose, Trigger, Inputs, Resources, Examples” framework, are especially practical.

David also explores how documented processes can train AI assistants, helping teams download institutional knowledge and turn it into scalable assets. His advice on hiring and onboarding systems-minded employees—including tailored job ads and systems mentors—is gold.

That said, I would have appreciated more visual frameworks or diagrams. With such a structured topic, a few well-placed graphics could have made the content even easier to absorb and apply.

Still, the author’s passion for systems shines through every page. His crazy dancer on the hillside analogy—about finding your first passionate follower—is spot-on. So is his reminder: “In business, consistency is far more important than perfection. Because consistency builds trust.”

If you’re ready to scale yourself out of daily operations and build a culture of systemization, this book delivers. It’s more than a how-to—it’s a mission. And David is a true champion of it.”

“If SYSTEMology showed us why systems matter, then Systems Champion shows us exactly how to bring them to life inside a growing business.

David has done something few others manage. He’s taken the often overwhelming idea of systemising a business and broken it down into a practical, step-by-step playbook that empowers the doers — the integrators, ops managers, and second-in-commands — to actually make it happen.

This book isn’t theory. It’s execution.

It doesn’t just explain what a systems champion does. It equips them to become one.

If you’re serious about building a scalable, streamlined business that doesn’t rely on the founder for everything, Systems Champion is essential reading.”

What I loved about this book is that it’s written for the team members who will be implementing the systems. Unlike Dave’s first book, SYSTEMology, which focused on the owner, this one speaks directly to the systems champion, making it a truly practical guide. I appreciated how it covered AI and other technologies in a grounded, non-buzzy way, rooted in timeless business principles. The real-life stories were powerful, honest, and relatable, showing both the challenges and rewards of systemising a business. As a leader (but not an owner) in a highly systemised organisation, I left feeling inspired to improve our systems even further and strengthen the connections between our departments.”
